Machine tools and stuff...

I picked up a tilting table at an auction a while back. The table was made by Boston Scale & Machine Company. I haven't been able to find much information on them. It looks old. There are some casting flaws and it has some patent dates of 1915 and 1919. It requires odd sized "T" nuts for the slots. I ordered some O1 tool steel to make some. I found and ordered a stud, block and clamp kit in 6mm that should work well. Kinda sucks to have metric stuff on this fine piece of merican history but I couldn't find a kit in 1/4".
I made up 6 nuts an oil hardened them. I put them in the oven at 500 degrees f for a few hours to temper them. It kinda stunk up the house. Glad the wife wasn't home today.
I trued it up on the surface grinder too.

been offered benchtop gear drive mill n 14x40 lathe in exchange fer the ol sporty.
eye realize tooling will be a big part of "worth it".
mill is rf 45, base model. lathe is like birmingham ct 1440 g w/diff paint.
both taiwan.
thoughts?

ol sporty is worth $8k in my eyes.
us/canuck shouldnt matter, bikes price bout the same, either way.

Hard to say if it would be a good deal. In this part of the country machinery is easier to find than other parts.
I can't imagine Taiwan stuff being worth $8k unless the included tooling is worth $7k.

The mill is worth more than the more common round column models, but I don’t think the pair would bring anywhere near $8k. Unless that price is completely location driven, like in Alaska. I’d guess more like $5k tops, less with minimal tooling.

I’ve found that when people want to trade it’s usually because they think they’ll get the better end of the deal. If he thinks that combo is worth $8k tell him to sell it and bring you $8k for your bike, I’m willing to bet he will want no parts of that.

You sir need a shop oven. Eye have an old toaster oven that works great fer stuff like that. One less thing to get me into trouble with The War Dept.....
I've considered one. For the rare occasion I need one, the house can stink like burned oil. Next time I will use vegetable oil though. That hydraulic oil does have a nasty stank.
I used to have a fridge and microwave is the shop too. Not enough room, they had to go.

ya my thought, too.
im gonna get way more use out of a bike at this age.
20 yr ago id been all over it.

there is 2 bikes hear

I thought you had a couple bikes but man, it'd be impossible to find an older bike like yours around here in the condition yours is in.
I've never seen one and would be hard pressed to part with one if I was lucky enough to own it.
I sent that Electra down the road, but they're a dime a dozen,,a classic old Sporty, in great shape is like hens teeth!
