Machine tools and stuff...

I think it is time to get a quick change tool post. Tim and Tom can you guys school me? This will be for my South Bend Heavy 10.

I really have not played with my lathe yet after almost 5 years. But I have a project I’m working on at work where I need lathe work. I talked to some machine shops and came to the conclusion that I’ll just buy the tooling and do it myself.

For this project I will be needing to bore hubs out on sprockets. So I will need a boring bar.

I am not wanting to spend Aloris type of money.

Dorian is cheaper than Aloris. Phase 2 is import stuff, I don’t know that one import is better than another. Make sure you get a wedge style as opposed to the piston style. The last holders I bought came from cdcotools.com, but you’ll be getting some when you buy the tool post set.

If you don’t have a bunch of HSS or cemented carbide bits already, you may just want to go with carbide inserted for the tools and the boring bar latheinserts.com has both.

Drill the majority 80%+ of that pulley out and then bore the remainder.

I’ll do some looking today. I’ll probably be bothering you.

Indexing/divding head, not rotary table. Is what I was speaking of. Pivot around the bar through the crank bearings to set the top of your crankcase where you want it and shim/clamp the other side. That just looks like a lot of shit stacked up and moveable.

That said, you got it done and didn't kill a bus load of orphan nuns in a fiery crash. I'd call it a win.
