What ya all working on??

after market kit? Never heard much about electric power steering.

Sorta, using the EPS from a Chevy Equinox and the control from Bruno. Also putting tilt in it because there ain't the room there was 45 years ago

That neat but I have to ask why? Are you hurting for power? Just to do it? I'm just curious on this one... I personally would want to keep it basic old school hydraulic.

1975 Jeep CJ5 didn't have power steering, it had all the power you could put on it for steering. This was about $200 while the hydraulic kit would run almost $1000
so there never a power steering box on a cj? well, i have adapted dodge truck parts to lots of things.
if this fukn furd keeps on it will get a dodge engine. developed a bad vacuum leak some where, i cant seem to find it. i suspect that funky egr deal under the carb. again, im sure the designer at furd worked for deere.

I think they did make one with PS but this one doesn't have it. I had a CJ5 with a 304 and standard steering (77 model in 78) and back then I was in far better shape and didn't weigh but about 180, I fit behind the steering wheel lots batter back then. Once rolling you could drive that Jeep with one hand on pavement.

This EPS looks far easier to install and is less expensive also, I'm also adding a tilt steering column for better fit in my advanced years. I'm adapting and over coming problems plus the bride may drive it from time to time

shit, they were good ol engines, easy to work on. idk if parts are hard to find?

Hit and miss on the parts. Yeah she's well built. It runs now, but the fuel pump is weak. Runs great when gravity fed. Pump diapragms are nla. You can get a new pump assy for $150 or so.

Pump is sitting with fuel in it over the weekend. Hopefully the diaphragm softens up.

However, the pump could be weak because of weak crankcase pulse signal. The engine is tired. 60psi comp wet or dry on both cylinders. That means low crankcase pressure too.

Standard ring sets are $50/set (x2 of course). .030 over rings and pistons are nla. Gaskets and seals for a rebuild would total $140 or so. Then there's labor. I doubt the customer would want to pay for a rebuild in any case...

I have a 9.9 Evenrude from that date if you need parts...
It's been sitting outside for 30 years

damn, i have a 78 15hp, and a 75 50hp, i hope the diaphragms are available, but i would think a 71 is the same? maybe thats about the time they changed........i had a couple older ones years ago, cant really remember now.
i like the old 2 stroke carbed coil pack motors. fuck the new 4 stroke computer controlled fuel injected, voo doo muther fukers. i can make the old one run out on the river with a piece of wire and a pair of pliers.
