The Stihl thread

My Dad had a Stihl 050 AV.
It’s mine now and I’m planning on cleaning/rebuilding it.
I bought the Stihl service manual and now I’m looking for pieces and parts, not sure what I will need yet, just wanted to see what’s out there.
Thank you

Yucka. No thanks. Even Stihl wants to forget that one. They named the 70cc class 440/441 replacement the MS462 rather than risking the 441 stain tainting the saw if'n they'd named it MS442.

The 462 is not the replacement fer the 461. That'd be the 500i.......

From my understanding a 462 probably outperform a 461, maybe not allot in torque.

maybe with a short bar. didnt they cut cc down to 72? what i hear from the west coast guys is all the new saws are floppy with more than a 24" bar.
This 661 didn't need those AV springs, in my opinion, but they are there.

Fine :farkyou:

All they did / doing is transferring the vibes back to the bar, so yeah it is whippy. If your dogged in and heavy handed the cut might be off and if you pull back and tip cut you can see it whip.

Ymmv

John you got a lemon 461 didnt you? that will turn a guy off. mine is still going strong, pulling a 32.

My first one was a lemon but I gave them another try and after a dual port cover, fw advance and Kevin modded the oiler the 2nd one was a good saw. I just wasn't overly impressed with the power and sold it to a guy from here. I cant see the 500i being its replacement, to me those 2 saws aren't even in the same class..

.......but they are, from a displacement and weight standpoint.
