The Stihl thread

Cold sieze happens when ya put the spurs to 'er without warming 'er up first (I dated a girl like that). They will often break free after sitting long enough for temps to equalize. Used to happen a lot with air cooled 2 stroke mx bikes.
It's a thing with snowmobiles. Guys will jump on at -20 and give them the beans, seize them solid. Snowmobiles are fragile as fuck

so i have a 660,, been around,, no history comp 130,, so i dissect it,, piston looks ok,, ring end gap getting up there.
So order some cabers,, they come install them, notice somebody had ground on the jug. So i go cut a tank of fuel.
Saw doesnt seem gutsy for a 660,, dang comp is the same 130 give or take... its got a 10 thou base gasket,,, squish of 22 22 28 30
Bearings are good and all that,,decomp gone., looking for anything else???
Am i missing something?? Where cam i buy some compression??
I used two different comp gauges,,, even pull starting it seems a lil lame

the later 660s sucked. they need more comp and better port timing.

your squish is 22-30? that seems a bit excessively off............22 should be good, 30 i would delete the gasket if ya can.
you should have upward of 180 at .22 unless your several thousand feet up.

I gots a question, i haven't broken in a saw in a very long time, i have this new 400 and have about a truckload of large knots and hard wood. all of it will be very knotty. i will have to noodle the stuff down after i cut the chunks off. My question will noodling this knotty stuff hurt the saw. i wouldn't think so but....i know i don't want to piss rev it and cut with a dull chain where it turns a lot of RPM and throws dust. i will have a new chain and bar on it. some of these chunks will take most of the 25 inch bar on it. These big chunks are big forks mostly. i like burning knotty wood, it burns longer. or should i just get out the well broken in 460 and do it.

id use the 460. its like milling, its make heat and your rings aint set in yet. other wise, run it like you stole it, but never dull. maybe keep it on the rich side...............cant tune that fuker........idk, mix rich.

skip chain takes less power to pull. Maybe run a skip chain for the first few gallons if your worried about beating the shit out of it. Some guys idle it for a tank. I havent started my new saw ether.

i run skip on every thing long and short. hell buying several different chains.
i wouldnt idle any thing to break in. think about a rebuilt car engine, we run it at 2500 for 20 minutes to seat rings and wear in the cam.
i have always broke in a saw makin her pull chips, never had a failure. IMHO idleing or running non loaded is very bad for any two stroke, even a two stroke diesel. they will wet stack and slobber like that. they need load.
