The Stihl thread

If you would quit at 1:30 or 2 in the winter you would have daylight after work.

But in the winter it's too cold to fish or do fun shit. So coming home early would mean sitting on the couch thinking about how ifn I only stayed at the woods my check would be much better. I can write off lost possible wages when it's warm outside. We need moar global warming

My 261 mtron has 3/8 on it. It was a worn out project saw that I resurrected. They are stout little saws for what they are, if a new one is like any other mtron Stihl I've ran then it will only get better once the new is worn off. All this new Stihl stuff is kinda fragile compared to the old 026-066 but from what I see across the board the old shit won't run with the new in stock form

had 064
sold it
kicked my ass fer doin so
traded for the 066 after that
mine are mostly stock, few mm & bgd in there
+the 024/6 conversion
im having the 461 done up. she was getting tired. also finely going to screw together that 66 flat top. then sending it to the midget pig for a hoof rasping. i dont expect either one to match this 64, but be better than stock and fresh. the 064 was sweet stock, its just special ported. i always said i wouldnt run it much, but its hard to put down.

agreed. i been running the ol 064. it aint stock at all, but i defy any one to come up with a newer saw of any size to match it. its just sweet to fall with, like a laser.

An 064 iz the shit

A 66 flat top is slick as hell too

I have quite a few hours under my belt running a 64 actually - back in ‘99 when we put the Comet Express lift in at Bristol Mountain, we logged the trails with an 064, 066, 046 and 036 - and a light saber that 64 sure was - I was way young back then - learned a lot and heard a lot of the guys argue over who was gonna use the newest saw, they always fought over the 66 which was bought brand new that year - the 64 was older and a bit more beaten and battered, I gravitated to it quite often and got more time with it than the other guys did

First saw I bought was a used 66 and that’s what got me into the community when I was only 19yrs old

It’s funny that 1999/2000/2001 are starting to be considered the good ole days, lol….

They’ll also vibrate the shit out of your beer after work too especially if your chains are super aggressive.

lol One of the loggers there at the time (Jim, RIP) was a dude who ground down all of his rakers to nothing and he only ran 404 chain on his 66 and his 88 - those saws would rattle the fuckin teeth outta yer mouth

He also removed the chain brakes from the clutch covers - he always said he didn’t believe in them, haha
