Good morning thread

Okay folks, I have a buddy that is looking at buying a used wood boiler and he wants to know how long they generally last.

Any of you wood boiler guys care to offer any suggestions on how long they tend to last?

This one has “a small leak that can be patched up.”

It’s a few hours away so he hasn’t seen it. He found it online and asked if I had any info on boilers.
First is it a pressurized or open system.
Has a leak is not a good sign
Find out the name, there are some that aren't worth the scrap value.
I have an Econoburn with 1000 gals storage going on year 14 with it.I almost made a lot of bad mistakes building my system, then i found the website "Hearth" i read up for about 4 months then went with w redesigned system that has worked flawlessly for 14 years. With storage i start a fire when i get home and it burns till i go to bed and shut the boiler off till the next day. With storage the boiler runs wide ope where it is the most efficient.I have never cleaned the chimney as there is only fly ash in it.
Some boilers don't last long because they haven't been looked after, this one having a leak is a red flag.

In high school cross country my mile times were 4:12 in 2004-2007 there were kids doing them in just under 4 minutes then.

I believe it. Galen Rupp led a whole generation of younger runners that broke records at the time and continue to. I was seeing some competitions in Roseburg/Eugene in those days where
some incredible times were being turned in.

Interesting note though - several of the top runners we had on the crew ended up quitting when they found out how tough working in the woods is. It's a different ball game having the
stamina to work all day in the woods vs. running a middle distance race. Being in the woods takes a level of mental fortitude that's apart from athletics.

Thanks for the info.

I copied and pasted it and sent it to my buddy.

I’m hoping that he passes as I would hate to have him pay the price for buying a unit that’s at the end of its life cycle.

Mornin 40/47
