Okay, I'll try that. Removing some bark and sapwood makes sense. I gotta be careful though, as the core is rotten on most of these trees.
not raining now, we got a little over an inch is all. no clue what went on in OC, it could wash away and id be happy.Nah not really. Little over 2" of rain in 16 hrs.. wind is gusty but not terrible. Given we are so dry here its a non-event. Now the coast had a healthy storm surge.... 4' give or take and it hit at high tide.
on pine that size i would go half, but understand i have never cut out there, idk how that fiber acts.Sometimes no lean. Sometimes mild. Often a curved stem, that leans against the back cut, but then bends back towards the face cut, about halfway up. Hinge depth about 1/3. Should it be deeper?
Good to hear you made it through!Nah not really. Little over 2" of rain in 16 hrs.. wind is gusty but not terrible. Given we are so dry here its a non-event. Now the coast had a healthy storm surge.... 4' give or take and it hit at high tide.
No shit there..got plenty, you gotta pay more. aint hardly worth cutting right now.

Yup..While I'm bitchin' about gas being $6.70 and food is expensive, the panic being shown in Europe will be off the charts soon.
Very few are prepared, they are out stripping branches off trees in hope to not freeze, most have already spent their savings on food, theft of food and gasoline is rampant
10s of thousands in the streets of many cities, in many countries screaming at their governments for getting them in this predicament.
I'm guessing the situation will degenerate much farther, I wouldn't want to be an elected official over there.
Right extremist groups are coming out of the woodwork, chaos and anarchy, blood and fire.
I'm going to the local car show tomorrow and have hotdogs, a burger or two, stop at the beer garden and enjoy a fine sunny day.
idiots all over the world will have to go hungry and cold before they learn the simple truths we already know. i cant imagine being that dumb but........Yup..
Germany spent about 2 trillion for “green tech” in a place where the sun don’t shine much and the wind don’t blow much..
Then buy lotsa NG from Russia on the cheap..
Trump warned them about 4 years ago, and caught a bunch of flack for “being rude”..
Guess they gonna be burning a lot of that shitty coal they got.. maybe WV can ramp up and sell em some good stuff, but I doubt it would be much in the short term..
Makes sense that the closer ya are to center, the less force it takes to tip.on pine that size i would go half, but understand i have never cut out there, idk how that fiber acts.
The polish government been doing everything they can to get away from dependence on Russian fuel for the last few years. Seems they took heed.. but I don’t know how far they got down that path. I would read up on it, but most of the people that write the articles are fucking morons. And would rather call the Polish people a bunch of fascists then actually observe an honest outcome.idiots all over the world will have to go hungry and cold before they learn the simple truths we already know. i cant imagine being that dumb but........
They let them return but somehow he tore his hip up when they evacuatedHernando Beach is a 45 minute drive north from my house. They probably are more concerned about flood damage.
yes, its about leverage. when i tried the shallow face thing i found out fast you dont have enough leverage to tip a heavy stick. its for falling with the lean, and i have to gut the center or it may crack. unless its pecker poles or i have to maximize length, i almost always do steep and deep. swing cuts may change things a little, but thats a whole different discussion.Makes sense that the closer ya are to center, the less force it takes to tip.
If there was any back lean at all, 1/3 deep would make you have to lift the weight of the entire tree almost to get it past center.
On second growth or old growth doug yes, cedar the bark is like hair I don’t think I’ve ever shaved the bark on it.I'll try that. Although, it seems more applicable to something like Doug Fir, right?
That’ll depend on the stem, cedar has a very very weak hinge it’s not hard to pop one off the stump if it’s not done correctly.Sometimes no lean. Sometimes mild. Often a curved stem, that leans against the back cut, but then bends back towards the face cut, about halfway up. Hinge depth about 1/3. Should it be deeper?
does the hinge hold good on that stuff? its so dry here the pine wont hold for long. normal years it will hold for half the fall. glad i didnt have to swing many in this tract. On second growth or old growth doug yes, cedar the bark is like hair I don’t think I’ve ever shaved the bark on it.
