bike pics n stuffs

I got this Yamaha wr 426 in my shed. Been here a couple yr I'd say. Some tweaker dropped it off and wanted me to "fix" it. He had thought the water pump needed replaced so he tore the top end off and clutch side all apart.. Lost parts and pieces in the process and he put it back together but it locked up when he kicked it over... I didn't go far into it and pushed it to the side. At the time I was looking for him to come back and I would tell him to take it. I don't have time for a project like that with probably no pay.

Guy disappeared from around here it seems, maybe in the pen or just moved and don't want it.. But I don't own a storage facility and either want it gone or I'll put work into it and ride it. Any advice?

Extra crispy makes too much noise when you’re playing hide and seek.

18 yrs ago I could have torn it down and rebuilt top and bottom just from memory. But I got a dealer manual for reference at this point. Its been a day or so since doing timing and valve shims on a 5 valve. The honda unicam setup is much simpler for the valve train servicing.

I'm not wanting to keep the guys bike from him. If he dont want it then I'll buy it for what it's worth. If I put money and time into it and he reappears then its gonna cost what I got in it for him to retrieve it. I've put word out for the last 18 months and have heard nothing

It would seem it’s yours at this point.

@So il logger
yer gonna want a manual to see what's f'd up and/or missin
ya might find one free online. i prefer paper when doing the actual work if ya get that far.
yt can be of some help if ya know what yer lookin at
stihl like parts prices might kill it

last one eye werked on got 4 stihl screws
they were cheaper than yamaha & knot chitty phillips

Those JIS screws suck. They take proprietary drivers even though they look like a Phillips head. They're also usually made of cheese, like most of their fasteners.

When I did the top end on my 1981 IT125 (in 1985 or so), I had to split one of the cylinder nuts. Damn thing rounded off inside a box end wrench. Split it with a flathead screwdriver and a hammer. Didn't even need a nut splitter or chisel. Smeared like cheese....

I had a GS1100L, can't remember the year, 1982?. Guy had dumped it on it's side, broke the cover off and the exciter on the crank. The hardened alignment pin had broke too. I cobbled it back together and it was a fun ride. I sold it for $1100.
Few years later I bought a GS1150ES, 1985 model year I think it was. That was a fun ride too. I think I sold that for about $1300 .

A buddy of mine had the GS1150ES and it was a torque monster, I rode it a bunch. I thought it was fast until I bought the GSXR1100 in '86 or so. The GSXR was the bike my bride told me "we are getting married but not with that bike".

The throttle (on a bike with me driving) is a digital signal and not an analog signal. It's high or it's low, end of story.

My favorite thing to do with the GS1150ES was a red line clutch dump from a rolling stop. I paced out the longest burnout at 113 feet. I didn't like riding it. I would just do 5 or 10 burnouts and then park it. I didn't feel safe on the bike when out riding. I bought it to fix up and flip.
The GS1100L I had owned years earlier when a bike was my major mode of transit. I remember going as fast as I could on that bike. My vision would get blurry from the speed and I would have to slow down to regain sight. I rode that thing stupid fast while drunk one night.

went n checked this out y'day

78 gs 1000e

One of the best bikes ever made. A true milestone. Is he asking $6k USD or CAD? $6k USD is a bit much............although everything is getting more expensive. I was shopping for one when I was in Ca. They were all either stupid expensive, butchered in a HACK attempt at a 'cafe' or 'bobber' build............or both.
