You have a Type 99 Jap MG? You suck.

Randy you're likely thinking of the Type 92 heavy machinegun (nicknamed the 'woodpecker' by our guys due to its slow steady rate of fire). It's a Hotchkiss based design that uses metal stripper trays. There were some other Jap guns (i.e. the Type 3) that also used this system. The Japs also had an mg with a hopper that took 6 round Mauser style stripper clips stacked on top of each other. That allowed riflemen to provide their ammo (clipped for use in their Arisaka bolt guns) to the machine gun if needed. The Japs also had Lewis Guns chambered in .303 Brit (but called 7.7 rimmed just to confuse logistics)....

back in the '80s, I saw crates of that Jap ammo and it won't always chamber in an Arisocky, rim thickness I think.

The japs did that to themselves. In WWII they had 7.7 rimless (for the type 99 bolt rifles plus some machineguns), 7.7 rimmed (for their .303 Lewis copies), and 7.7 'semi-rimmed' (for a couple machineguns). That plus 6.5 for a few remaining type 38 rifles and a few other machineguns. A logistics nightmare. Good.
