Yeah they've got issues all right. The whole gauge cluster on those has a tendency to go tits up......................................................................as do the CURRENT OEM replacements. Non serviceable, and only replaceable as a complete unit (and EXPENSIVE).

Fuel gauge sending units are also crap. The cam sensor, crank sensor, and VVT oil control solenoid also have a tendency to take a shit.........................as do the coil packs. Have replaced 2 (out of six) coil packs, the crank and cam sensors, VVT solenoid, gauge cluster, and fuel gauge sending unit so far in a bit over a year. The coil packs are at least easy to change out......
If its a 3.6 I hope you got it early in life, otherwise they tend to gunk up. Timing chain is the weak point.
If its 4wd, you don't wan know what it takes to change an axle shaft. And they made about 6 flavors of them, GMC, Volvo, and there's at least one other than of course chebby.

It's a 2005 4wd with the 4.2L I6. Had it for about 2 years. The VVT oil control solenoid was gunked up. Was throwing cam phaser system codes. Volvo eh? I knew about the chebby and gmc variants and the H3 version (and a caddy variant IIRC). I don't even want to think about that timing chain or the front shafts.....

I think there is still another one besides Isuzu.

Gotta be a Cadillac as well.

Looks like the I-4 and I-5 Atlas variants have dual chain driven balance shafts at the rear of the engine, and yer 'supposed' to replace that chain at the same time as the cam chain. Yucko. Gotta pull the trans for that.

Here Filthy Rich changes the front and rear chains on a 2.9L Atlas I-4 in a chebby canyon.
