Wife needs a new tv before too long, since I know less than zero about the things, tell me what to buy, I believe she has a size in mind, I'll find out.
Yes no China for starters. Price I have no idea, the last one I bought was a 27" CRT in about 2003How much are you looking to spend?
Just pick one that she likes the picture of at the price point you want to buy?
How about one that is not made in China? Just look at the box for that info. A lot of them are actually not made in China.
Use a thick enough rope.

It's a stand mount now but I'd like to go wall. I guess it will have to be a smart one whatever that means cause she watches my sisters net flix. I try not to buy anything more expensive than a toaster at walmartStand or wall mount? They’ll come with a stand, wall mount is an extra cost. Does she want to watch Netflix/YouTube/Hulu/whatever, need to make sure you get a smart TV for that. Don’t get one from Walmart. I used to only buy Sony, they served me well for many years. I’ve had a few Samsungs now, too. No complaints with them, yet.
Going with a wall mount you can usually fit a bigger screen. Since the projection TVs became obsolete I don’t know that I’ve ever met anyone that wishes they got a smaller TV. If you’ve got room go at least 55”, there’s not that much price difference between 50 and 55.
Go to the store and buy with your eyes. Go to a few places, even Walmart here has them running. That way you can see if that extra money is better spent on image quality, bullshit features or saved in your pocket.I literally have no idea if I should pay $500 or 1500
