Migs are constant voltage. Wire speed determines amperage.
Get a big you'll thank us later after a bottle of argon and a few packs of tungsten later, thin sheet metal like that is gravy.

terminology, you know what i mean. i have an old school rig too, shopmaster 300 hooked to an LN7. i am old, LN7 drive rolls are scarce. i did score a .023 roll on ebay last fall.
i prolly should have got the tig set up, but, i got pretty good with this rig. of course these old dodge trucks are prolly thicker than newer stuff. new stuff always makes me cuss, but i aint got to fool with those.
disclaimer, i havent messed with much stainless, but what little i have i didnt see much difference. if any thing it seemed easier.
This, I prefer my syncrowave over any other welder in the shop.
Although I did just get a Miller Pulse MiG. That one is a game changer for aluminum with a push pull gun and also for stainless.
Testing a migpak 100 i got diffrent voltage on each setting,,,
I welded that muffler cover with a Hobart handler 140, it's just a 115v. Has 2 knobs, one for wire feed. I may have been wrong in terminology about it being mig? Wire welder with gas shield
i got the hobart 170 220v and lincoln 100,,115v both have their place. the 110 good for thin chit n stuff,, was free, was underwater,,, i dried it for a long time,, had to replace the whip,, works great,, i took my meter to it B4 i spent money on it. my cabin lincoln 220v also went under and survived,,,just needed a whip core.,
I can set the amps on mine...

It has High and Low lugs for the power cable, plus a dial from 1 to 6
Plus of course the wire speed
We were taught about 100 years ago in welding school to treat the wire speed as the heat. The machine will supply enough power to burn the wire at whatever speed you set. But yes, some have a voltage knob
No, that's mig. I bought one of those welders for the shop except I think,it was a 170. Had excellent luck with it for small odd jobs. I bet it's still there working
my hobart handler 170 has been excellent.
But better yet when i was 18 me and a buddy bought a Liquid Carbonic Arc welder good for 230 amps
has bout a 30% duty cycle At 130 amps,,, i have welded many hours with 1/8 rod and that sucker dont even get warm.
its apig that wont die,,, you can buy them and others now for $100-200 buks,,,,
Best one I can think of is a buddy has an old old crappy tire branded ac/dc about 250 amps. It's old, gotta be 50-60 years old, his father had it when I was a kid and they still have it and use it on the farm. It's in an old building that should have fell down about 30 years ago, dirt floor, snow blows in on top of it in the winter, let it dry out in the spring and flip the switch.
