Holy cow, the lights are flickerin. the Cow can't piss this much.
hey mr Barnes. since i am about to install a 727 in the 86, i figure i should find a fix for the leaky valve covers at the same time. any tricks you know of? i aint ever got them not to leak on this one, i suspect the head surface is not flat.
Black RTV is about the best I can recommend (on the gaskets), anything else won't work
I spent 9 years in a Dodge dealership late 80’s early 90’s, the orange silicone, came in a tube that you stuck in a caulk gun.you could get rails that spread the pressure from each valve cover bolt over the length of the cover.I've had troubles with them cork valve cover gaskets too. I have dimpled the tin at the bolt holes and run a large bead of silicone, no gasket. That new ultra grey works good. It holds up well to solvents and is more firm.
So, is this shit fireproof?I spent 9 years in a Dodge dealership late 80’s early 90’s, the orange silicone, came in a tube that you stuck in a caulk gun.you could get rails that spread the pressure from each valve cover bolt over the length of the cover.
Throw those gaskets in the trash, tighten em down with a 1/4“ drive.
aint many places like that any more
So, is this shit fireproof?
Rained so hard here yesterday, it damn near washed out the wife’s new flower bed..Holy cow, the lights are flickerin. the Cow can't piss this much.
Guess i need to go look outside the window to see what damage wind wise we have since the sun come up, i know there will be sticks and limbs.Rained so hard here yesterday, it damn near washed out the wife’s new flower bed..
Gutters were overflowing.. couldn’t handle the volume.
Get out the old Cat Cement she’ll never leak again.yeah, i have tried cork, rubber, fiber and paper. two different sets of covers.........leaks.
apparently the later LA heads are known for it, i never had this problem before.
it seems so wrong but i am contemplating thick beads of silicone and let it almost dry then install and dont snug bolts until tomorrow.
what is this right stuff gasket maker? i take it its not silicone?
Happy groundhogs day.Happy birthday rich
I have one...This oil line let go on my retired friends 93 S10 blazer

He didn't notice until it locked the engine up
I'm trying to find him a engine
Damn near 2k for a rebuilt long block.
Junkyards don't carry
Parts older than 10 year's here
We're looking for a truck for him
And will fix the blazer later.
Does anyone rely on a Dodge as a daily driver?Of course nobody I know runs a 29 year old dodge as a daily driver.
Or a can of "The Right Stuff"Get out the old Cat Cement she’ll never leak again.
Use "The Right Stuff ",no gaskets.hey mr Barnes. since i am about to install a 727 in the 86, i figure i should find a fix for the leaky valve covers at the same time. any tricks you know of? i aint ever got them not to leak on this one, i suspect the head surface is not flat.
Many years now.Does anyone rely on a Dodge as a daily driver?
thats what im thinking. i did some reading up on this, starting in the mid 80s the castings were changed for the 302 casting heads, which is what i used for the semi closed combustion chambers........ looks like thats indeed the one renowned for uneven surfaces where the covers sit. i even read one was 1/4" low on each end. no cover and gasket is gonna seal that. if i had known about this issue obviously i would have planed those surfaces flat. i never ran into this with 70s chrysler heads. i also read that GM small blocks had that problem in the 80s, but since the mopar mania hadnt hit yet it was less known until recently. of course heavy pockets buy aluminum AM heads so its non issue there. i like building from mis matched factory shit to come up with nice drivers. better than stock from good junk i always say. see an early 70s block with less deck height add 80s closed chamber heads, you get 9. what ever static compression. it costs nothing if you have the right junk around.Use "The Right Stuff ",no gaskets.
Clean the surfaces real good a 1/4" bead set the cover on and install bolts just touching the covers.go back next day and tighten the covers
