5100 dolly spark issues. Ready to smash this fucker

Got said saw, checked spark, no spark… bought new dolly brand coil. Put in saw and am getting random/ intermittent spark. It’s all cleaned up as well. Along with adjusting the gap a few times. I have no fucking clue what to look for. And if it’s the new coil that is also bad I’m going to be pissed.

I figure, you've already disconnected the kill wire from the coil to eliminate the possibility of a short .

New plug, magnet is very strong, after putting a new oem coil on it that was my first thought. I will randomly get spark. And by random I don’t mean like one of the girls T1 has dated.

Have a buddy with a blown 5100s that I’m gonna swap the new coil out and try the one out of his. I’m just out of ideas.

I had one that looked new a customer gave it to me
He bought two different coils and neither worked with that particular flywheel
I had to pay 80.00 for the correct one
And sold that son of a bitch.

There's only so many things it can be. If it's not the kill switch/ wiring, spark plug/ wire, it would have to be the coil yeah. You need a known good coil to test it. Are those limited coils like a 7900?

I have had some new coils that were bad but they were Chinese and all from the same ebay seller.

So I read a few posts. Sounds like there’s like 3 different coils that will fit but only one will actually work. Supposedly the red limited one is what will work for a 5100, as the unlimited coil for it is NLA. FOR SAIL BLACK COIL FOR 5105. Brand new. Now to find a red one…

It’s been a couple years since I screwed with it, I gave up on it twice. I was convinced that it was the carb, I bought the suggested carb, no change, tried a chink coil and I can’t even get it to fire. I threw it in the corner and ain’t picked it up since.
