Gun talk or something beside the stupid title i gave it

I found a J.C Higgins model 103.228, .22 rifle, at a pawn shop. They're asking $200. Evidently, it's the same as a Marlin model 80. It seems to fit what I've been looking for; shorter/carbine-length barrel, open sights, non-semiauto, ability to shoot S, L, and LR. The stock looks brand-new. I saw a just a bit of surface rust on the barrel. I need to go back, to try to see/inspect the bore. The only issue, is that it's missing the magazine.

Thoughts? Do any of you have this or the Marlin?

If the bore is good it should be a nice shooter. Looks like they bring more money on gunbroker.

Or if you don't have a lighted borelight take a small sheet of white paper make it into a u-shape and inserted in the chamber with the u Side facing up into the bore then shine a light onto the paper and look through the muzzle
