Tim’s payloader and generator BS thread

I bought a chipper at auction. The seller didn't post much info about it. Won't start, battery dead and hours unknown. It has a Cat branded Perkins 1104C-E44T engine, 125hp. I'm hoping it just needs a battery and fuel system work from sitting. I have a nice low hour spare engine if it needs it. It looks pretty nice. It has the winch and hydraulic tongue jack.

$800 to have it delivered. I wouldve spent $300 on fuel. Let's go Brandon. 10hr drive x 2 also. In a few hours it will arrive and I'll have some idea how good or bad I did on this purchase.

12.5% buyers fee

I need to start a online auction service

You could have visited SS in Arkysaw

Freehand is only 30 minutes away in Fayetteville.
Yrp. Between buyer premium, sales tax and delivery, 15 quickly becomes 20.
Repocast is a local online auction company here which I believe is growing nationwide. That family is doing quite well. I used to watch some of their auctions, but once I figured out I had to pay 6% sales tax, plus 15% buyers premium... Then on top of that there is a 10% sellers premium.

On items sold under $1000 they are clearing 25% for premiums between the buyer and seller.

They are also the reason I quit working on saws. They always have piles of saws for sale and they bring stupid money.
I would get several calls weekly to work on a saw. After a brief conversation with the guy I’d ask how long he has had it and when did the problem start. 75% of the time the answer was I bought it from Repocast and I tried to use it and it either wouldn’t run or ran like crap.

Cranky Ape is one of the auction sites I used to watch. On top of the seller fee, buyers premium and sale tax, they charge a yearly subscription to buyers. Gotta be a member to bid. I never bought from them. K-bid is another with high fees for sellers. Auctioneers subcontract and the fees add up.

Just finished off-loading and a quick look at it in the dark. It has the newer common rail injection engine. It is still pre-emission. It was the peak of efficiency for this engine. The next gen has emissions.
It doesn't look to have many hours. Tomorrow I'll power it up to check the hour meter. The guy that delivered it was told it wouldn't power up. It could just have a minor wiring problem. I can see where someone has been poking round the harness and checking the inline fuses.

Damn, my Boy paid $450 to have his rig hot shot fro GA.

Fixed a bad battery connection and powered it up with a good battery. The control panel display is scolling "no can bus data" message. I've contacted the display manufacturer and got their wiring diagram. I've puĺled out an engine wiring diagram. Next is the check can bus wires continuity and the terminating resistor.

Did you check the ground?

@Dieselfitter … are you fixing this beasty to resails ? If yes, and I come close to getting through my current shit storm , I may be interested in something like that .

good, point. That's next, powers and grounds.
There's all sort of power and ground wires tapped into the battery connections. It's awful messy for being OEM.

I checked the twisted pair can bus for continuity. They test good. I tested for 120 ohms between the 2 wires(terminating resistor. The service manual shows it in the harness. It's not in the harness. It's actually internal to the controller/display.

I also have a 2 amp charger on the battery to see if it will come around.
