The new Chinese Hot Mustard WTF thread

Police say Wednesday morning's boat fire in the Lower Mission occurred after the owner couldn't get the boat's motor to turn off in the middle of the night, but he decided to go back to sleep.

"Officers spoke with the registered owner, who said that at 1 a.m., he heard the motor running from his boat and couldn't turn it off," said Const. Mike Della-Paolera of the Kelowna RCMP in a press release.

"He tried to pull some fuses but eventually gave up and went back to sleep. Later the owner woke up and saw the boat was on fire."

Fire crews responded to the fire just before 6:30 a.m.

The Formula 400 Super Sport was out of the water on a lift at the time, near the 4000 block of Eldorado Court. The Kelowna Fire Department believes the water-cooled engine in the boat overheated and caught fire. The lift the boat was on collapsed in the fire, but no one was injured during the incident.

"A fire like this creates a lot of smoke which can be seen from far away causing concerns for many residents in our community," said Const. Della-Paolera. "The quick response by the Kelowna Fire Service eased those concerns."

Similar Formula 400 Super Sport boats are listed online for upwards of $269,000 USD.
