I haven't used one but one of the porter's had several that failed.
I do have 7 372s and a 268 with china coils
Only one went bad in 4 years
Well worth 10-15.00 for another one.
I've heard so much bad about Chinese parts and I'll agree that some are junk but a lot of guys that preach about how bad they are , are just hating and have never even used any.aftermarket parts have saved a lot of saws that would have gone in the trash. I have a very beat up 272 that I put a like 3 dollar Chinese piston in complete with the piston ring and clips, just to see how long before it exploded, and it still runs. I wouldn't sell it to anybody and I wouldn't have done it if I was depending on the saw but I don't think any of the parts are nearly as bad as people think. I've had tremendous luck with Chinese carbs, sometimes they are cheaper than a kit for the original carb

I built 5 of these 4 years ago

They are all still together
Just some chain brakes sucked and lost one coil that's it.
This one has a bb hyway popup cylinder kit and is still at 180# comp
I've had this one loaned out to my nephew for 2 years.
I just prefer the 2 series or I'd run these more.

Neighbor has Husqvarna 51 that he wants to sell along with a 272 . I maintain the both for him .
If you knew nothing about thesaw ,you could mistake it for NOS . It is really nice .
What’s a fair price for it that won’t mess over me ,or him ? ?

500.00 for both would be a fair price I'd think for couple decade old saws.

51 is not a high dollar saw, nor is a 55, I've seen them for as little as 50 bucks but not as nice as you're describing. A 272 has never impressed me either. They always seem to not be much greater than a 268 or a 266 when they should be. Great saws just not very exciting
The 272s benefit the most from porting imho
I actually put ported 268 closed ports on most of my 272s
I prefer how they run
266 is still my favorite though.

Firewood season is approaching it always amuses me every year when I cut with different people family and friends
They always want to run the 2 series
I've got strong 2171/2172/371/372s but they like the old stuff
They run mostly newer stihls
I even let them run thier ultra in my stock saws.
