Not uncommon for people to register as a member of the opposite party, just so they can vote in the primary for what they perceive as the weakest candidate.
They always claim it's a right winger at first, then later it comes out that the perp was a leftist. Brainwashing technique.
Stupid people have a short attention span, so the initial claim sticks in their mind, facts that come out later never get connected. This is why the leftists believe people on the right are violent even though they themselves are committing all the violence,.
