Never handled a NXS. I recently purchased a NX8 2.5-20x50 MIL XT FFP, it's my first nightforce, love it so far. NX8 evolved out of the NXS line, I doubt they quit the NXS line. Many Vortex here as well, mixed feelings about them depending on the line and application, but their warranty is second to none. My most recent is a gen 2 Razor 3-18x50 EBR-7C mrad. It is every bit of the scope my NX8 is but over 16oz heavier.
For the money the clarity at magnification is pretty decent on that series.
I think it was a fair deal for both.
It is decent but I've never liked the reticle in it, I much prefer the Leupold Boone & Crockett for out west. Timber it would be just fine.

The reticle is supposed to be the first thing considered in scope selection. You know that now.

I knew that before but when you buy a used gun with a scope you don't have much choice.
i still prefer the no4 three post. getting hard to find. i dislike these new super busy reticles with fifty slash marks, or the really fine ones hard to see at dusk.
