Machine tools and stuff...

I wondered about that. The bidding went $1 to $2 to $214. I paid $35 for an identical set that was missing a few pieces. On kuntbook there is a lot of hype about the Ford Jo blocks. It's cool history but not sure that translates to high value.

Complete sets bring a premium, I think the home shop guys have a hard on for them.

Ordered up a few insert turning tools.

2 pieces on back order. :(

Nicely organized, how long will that last?

BTW, I haven't lived at my Dad's house since 1980 (and he's moved since then) but still get blamed when he can't find a tool

We shall see.

About the pieces on back order, I forgot to mention that the owner included a hand written thank you card with a note apologizing for not having those 2 items in stock and an estimate of when they would be shipped. If you need tooling or inserts get a hold of them.

That's nice personal customer service. I've bookmarked his site for future stuff.

What holds them in place at desired diameter?

View attachment 1813Gotta make something to bore the cap to match the cam journals.
I finished this fiasco. I had originally made a stepped mandrel to run on the cam journals. I matched the diameter of the mandrel to the new camshafts the customer had sent. The mandrel is too loose to use. The journals in the head are worn pretty bad.
Instead, I turned down some brass bushings to allow use of the customer's 7/8" line boring bar. It created an opportunity to use a tapered mandrel to hold the bushings while I turned them on the lathe. I had to reduce the bushing to a wall thickness of .035"
John, Like Joe mentioned, the mandrel expands, wedges and hold the workpiece with friction.
