Gun talk or something beside the stupid title i gave it

Walther CCP, no it's not new.

I replaced the old Union safe with a "26" long gun safe from TSC. It is branded as a Winchester, but is made in Texas by Liberty.
I got a deal because someone ran a forklift down one side at the factory, peeled up the paint and shipped it anyway. They didn't want it back, so I got it for less than half.
Has a light, alarm and weighs about half of what the old Union did. 45 minutes @ 1400 degrees fire rated.
Backup keys are a good idea, this came with two.

Damn, sounds like you got a good deal. Does yours have a combination dial or a keypad?

Tractor Supply is about the cheapest, you can catch them on sale a couple times a year.

I have 2 with the keypad only, I think there’s a thread on here about me replacing the locks with something more robust.

Do you need them to prevent theft or just to keep the kids out? It’s gonna be a pretty significant step up in cost for something that will actually keep a thief out for any length of time. Mine are bolted down, side by side and with a wall on one side. If it took someone with a cordless grinder longer than 30 minutes to have them both opened or ripped from the floor and be gone with my stuff I’d be surprised.

If it’s just to keep the kids out get a gang box and either build a rack or put some padding in there.

If I had money to burn I’d get one of these. https://zanottiarmor.com/

Can I get some gun safe advice?

I need one that can hold about 10 long guns, and 7 hand guns. My absolute must, is that it has to have either a key backup, or a mechanical dial. There's no way I can completely trust an electronic keypad.

Not sure what the current options for brands or build quality now.
I went through this about 10 years ago.

I ended up going to a safe builder and getting a safe custom made. It wasn’t priced much higher than big box store safes like Liberty.

Safe manufacture’s are very misleading. Some will boast a 60 min fire protection, but you need to look at the temps they quote it at. I’d trust a safe with a lower time, but higher temp over a longer time at a lower temp.

Your Liberty safes and the like all have doors that are only 12ga steel wrapped in drywall.
I like a door with a minimum of 3/8 plate.

Mechanical lock is also a must in my book. I’m not a fan of electric locks.

Like Tom said, bolting it to the floor is a must. It doesn’t matter how well built your safe is. If someone can tip it over, it won’t take long with a few crow bars to separate the door. I have mine bolted down and in a small closet. No room to top it over for one, and also no room to work a crow bar

Yeah, my kids are insanely disciplined when it comes to the guns, but I'd rather be safe than sorry. Deterring theives would be nice, but keeping my kids' playmates out is a must.

went and shot this ruger 22, i am not impressed. shot about 100 rounds through it and it's a jam o matic. it jammed several times and the firing pin didn't hit hard enough to fire about 10 of them. I was going to carry it in a pocket but nope, i may unload this POS. I started out at about 10 yeards and crap the grouping was so bad i didn't take a pic, but then i realized this is a belly gun and moved it up to five yards and they got better WHEN it worked.
