I pick up the 638 in the morning and because I'm buying a gun, the shop will sell me up to 4 boxes of ammo at cost, they been holding ammo for gun buyers.
I have plenty, but I'm buying what they will give me.
I'll start out with standard pressure first, then work my way into the +P. From what I understand, vey few JHPs will expand, I have five different types and no way to test them.
I have seen a few tests on youboob, in some ways, the old 158 RNL does as well as many modern projectiles. In any case, if it sees the use it was intended for, it will either blow a hole in my jacket pocket or there is time for proper shot placement.

1980 Smith and Wesson 6.5" M28-2 Highway Patrolman. That's the 'economy' version of the M27 357mag N-Frame. Second to last year of the 'pinned and recessed' S&W revolvers. Was able to read the SN on the grip frame and date it.

SIL gave it to me last night when they arrived back from Ca. A friend of his mom gave it to him. Was a victim of the first big NorCal wildfires in 2017. It was fully loaded, and all six cooked off. Case head blew off a couple of them and the recoil shield is bent on the RH side from the blast. It's locked up tight.

Will gently de-rust it (starting with a good boil) and see if I can free it enough to open 'er up. Heat treating was likely fuckered, so I won't be putting 'er to the test. Might put together a few mouse fart .38spl loads for it to try it out if it cleans up good enough. Mostly it's a cool piece of history. Now if I can pick up about 485 more of these wildfire victoms I'll come close to matching T1.

M55? Check this thread. Lotsa good info.

28s are cool, I tried to get a 38/44 from the bro, he wasn't inclined.
Next will be a mid frame .357, L-frame maybe, more likely a Ruger, an old Security Six would be fine, the GP would do nicely.
The LGS has a 788 in .308, $600, no ammo in stock, it might be easier to go with one of the 99s in 300 Savage, a guy who knows a guy who loads for them, we will see.
One of the 99s is a take down, kinda cool looking.
I did get 3 boxes of Fed 130gr FMJ, there wasn't any other choice, it will go bang and make holes. I have several types of .38, I'll carry what hits POA.
