Not So Pros v3.0

speaking of deer, i had been mad at myself since tuesday night, heres what happened. i went to the boys stand where i saw a absolute moose sat. watched at least 20 deer on the other side where my usual stand is and felt dumb. dark, i got ready to get down and herd some thing, thought i saw a limb moving in the wind but there was no wind. 50mm scope, i could see a deer about 80yds, it had antlers but i couldnt tell how much...........i should not have shot, but i did. blind from muzzle flash, i had no clue what happened, couldnt see shit. sat there for about ten minutes and got down, went and looked for blood/hair..............................
......................
.......................
about an hour, i even looked inside the edge of the woods, nothing. i must have missed? how? must have?
yep, i gave up.
thought about it all night and decided i could not have missed. went out there the next day in the rain to look around, and maybe still hunt.
half down the lane, there it was with a buzzard sittin on it, he had run straight out in the middle of the field, only about 60yds from he was hit. it was a decent 10pt buck, prolly close to 200lb. really pissed now, i got the four wheeler and headed back to get it out of the field.
critters had eated on it all night, i wasnt gonna take it home, so i drug it in the woods where no one hunts. super pissed at myself.

last night, me and oldest went. he shot early, i knew he had some thing down. about 445 a big doe and three smaller ones come out, i figure im gonna figure out what happened tuesday, so i put the cross hair about mid chest for lungs and squeeze. deer jumps about 6 feet straight up and hauls ass to the woods. i see where it went so i get down to go see if there is blood..........lots, every where. it was about 40yds in the woods. i marked a spot and started up to the truck. met Dev there and he said he shot a nice 8pt, so we go get it loaded, then go to the other side for my doe. now its dark. i said lets try some thing, i knew right where the blood trial was and it was good one so we took a good LED light and an 18v incandescent flashlight. the LED you couldnt see any blood at all, the whole ground looked grey. with the incandescent light, the blood showed up great, reflected off the blood puddles.
me, my 30yo son, and the landowner all three agreed the LED sucked and none of us could see the blood with it. so i know where i fucked up tuesday, i know im half blind but having a light that dont show blood sure as hell didnt help.

tl,dr, i know fuck heads, but if you hunt get a god damned regular light so you dont fuck up like i did. im in the market for a real good incandescent light, if such a thing is still made.

You can thank me later

Hairless deer.
Whats that old looking cast iron thingy against the wall?

they say a blue filter works well, but i am now convinced the yellow light of an incandescent bulb is best. i see maglight does still offer traditional incandescent flashlights.........prolly have to order one, i doubt local stores carry any. we have been told LED is better, it is not.
I have a bunch of Maglites if you want one, just pay shipping

Lol

Nice!

I've seen two of the closest shots with rifles this year. Buddy and I were sitting in dads 4x8 box stand and grunted that 3 point within 20 yards, plugged him with 150 grain core-lokt out of a pump 30-06.
Kaden got that decent 8 out of my 4x4 box stand at 40 yards with 250gr FTX 450 bushmaster Ruger american tupperware.

thanks, but they still make new ones incandescent.

do you have any xenon? if ya do, are they a yellow light like incandescent or white like an led?
Xenon is used in hid lighting, where an arc is used to provide the light. The colour is usually blueish but you can change it depending on the bulb

Well, i guess its also used in that. Guess i dont know shit
